The approach is simple: you break it, we fix it, quickly and conveniently for you. The service covers all parts and labor, but more importantly, it also covers a complete range of damage that warranty or service contracts don't, including unintentional spills, drops, falls, and collisions. Accidental Damage Protection even covers a damaged or broken LCD display.
About the only thing this service doesn't cover is the battery.
If HP hardware is not on the order with CarePacks, then a serial number is required at time of order.

HP Hardware Support Offsite Return Service offers high-quality return-to-HP service levels with remote telephone support and offsite repair for eligible products at an HP designated repair center. The service includes offsite repair or replacement, materials and parts, labor, and the cost of the return shipment. HP offers service levels with flexible shipment options to the HP designated repair center, as detailed below. Some service levels are also available with optional service features such as accidental damage protection or defective media retention.

Service Details
Repair center services: For issues that cannot be resolved remotely, an HP-authorized representative at an HP-designated repair center provides technical support on the failed hardware product, repairing or replacing components or the entire unit as necessary. Your coverage includes all required parts and materials.
Accidental damage protection: Examples of accidental damage against which you are protected include: liquid spills, drops, falls, collisions, electrical surges, damaged or broken LCD, or any accidental breakage. Your unit may have to be repaired or replaced at an HP- designated location, as not all replacement parts may be available locally.
